"Sky Blue (a new day)"
“Why is it so dark, in the middle of the day”? Have you ever asked yourself that question? Has life’s “Dark Day Experience” ever caused you to make decisions that have made you ashamed of who you are and what you’ve been through? There is no shame in who you are, where you’ve been or what you’ve been through. Therein lies the story behind the song, “Sky Blue (A New Day)”.
Early in my twenties while at The University of Georgia, I begin to face challenges. As a result, I went to see someone for help and another perspective. Specific titles and classifications were given to issues I was dealing with. This rocked my world. On a particular day, I’d left one of our meetings and when I stepped outside, it looked like midnight in the middle of the day . . . like a dark, stormy sky. This was my “Dark Day Experience” . . . my “Midnight Blue”. A midnight of pain, hurt and depression shielded my life from July’s beautiful mid-day sun. When I returned to my dorm room, I had another meeting. It was time to speak with the One that is called Wonderful . . . Counselor, the One that brought me out of darkness into His marvelous light. He’s a Healer, a broken heart mender. He renewed my mind and created the right Spirit within me. He took me to Isaiah 30:15, and it revealed that “in quietness you’ll find salvation and strength”. So I began to seek Him and trust Him to be my salvation, as I prayed “Lord, be my strength where I am weak”.
That Dark Day began a journey of healing and restoration that has largely shaped my life. When I wrote “Sky Blue” eight years ago, I wrote it to let you know that no matter how dark the day, I’m a witness that God, with your partnership, will make the difference in your life. He has given you the courage and power to make change and have a better, more abundant life. So many scriptures speak to that, such as Ephesians 3:20 . . .”Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly all we can ask or think, according to the power working within us”. We have the power and strength, beautiful people, and we can do all things through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, that strengthens us!
God has transported me from one place that was dismal and desolate, to a place that is fruitful, rich and nourishing. Now, “dark clouds gone away, sunshine it’s a new day” is true in my life. He turned my midnight blue to “Sky Blue”! He will do the same for you! It’s a new day beautiful people . . .a new day!

Kabanya Chemise’s Skies are Blue
Posted in music on January 8th, 2010 by Rovi
So I woke up to one of the most beautiful voices in the music industry some time ago and it was no other than Kabanya Chemise singing her new solo, Sky Blue. From what I heard, she was a beautiful composer, singer and writer at the early age of 5 when she started studying classical piano. She was a genius, a child prodigy with the musical gift of Einstein and Picaso back then, so by age 12 she was the minister of music for her church. She was the top dog in her field. That is no surprise, because I was amazed as she sung a beautiful, sultry, jazzed up whoo…. whooo over her solo on Good Day Xtra a few nights ago. She has a beautiful rounded out tone and knows how to hit you where your body needs it. She is a classical musician with more than 20 years of training who knew how to make a song move with your vibe. I saw it. I heard it that night.

"Sky Blue" - Kabanya-Chemise
“Sky Blue”
Kabanya-Chemise
From her forthcoming CD Mosaic
(single available now; CD release date: April 2010)
http://kabanya-chemise.com
Singer-songwriter Kabanya-Chemise has worked alongside artists from Usher and Jennifer Holliday to Kurt Carr and Ann Nesby. She now takes her turn in the spotlight with “Sky Blue,” fusing gospel, R&B, and her classical training with the '70s AM radio pop and soul sounds with which she grew up in Albany, Georgia.
“Sky Blue” is the first single from Kabanya’s debut CD Mosaic, due out this spring. The performance opens with menacing rumbles of thunder and a cloudburst of rain. Kabanya follows with gently rocking riffs about life’s inevitable ups and downs, “even if you live right,” but reminds us that God can “turn your midnight blue to sky blue.” The neo-soul '70s vibe was so deliciously retro that by the end of the song, when the birds are chirping, I could see in my mind’s eye Minnie Riperton somewhere above, smiling with satisfaction.
